FAQ
Which lactation professional is right for my family?
A CBS (Certified Breastfeeding Specialist) provides basic breastfeeding education and support, while a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) has more advanced lactation training to help families with common feeding challenges, pumping, and milk supply concerns. An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is the highest level of lactation credential, requiring extensive clinical training and board certification to assess and manage complex breastfeeding and infant feeding issues. All three support feeding families, but IBCLCs are qualified to provide comprehensive clinical lactation care.

When should I schedule a lactation consultation?
You can schedule support at any stage of your feeding journey. Many families seek help during the first few days after birth, but support can also be helpful weeks or months later.
Do you offer in-home visits?
Yes! We offer in-home consultations throughout Bergen County, NJ, as well as office and virtual appointments.
How long is an appointment?
Initial consultations are typically 1.5–2 hours, allowing enough time for a full history, feeding assessment, and personalized care plan.
Should I feed my baby before the appointment?
It is ideal if your baby has not eaten for at least 1 hour prior to the visit so a feeding assessment and weighted feed can be completed accurately.
What happens during a lactation consultation?
Appointments include a review of medical and feeding history, observation of a feeding or pumping session, assessment of milk transfer, and individualized recommendations to help meet your feeding goals.
Do you provide pumping support?
Yes! We help with pump settings, flange sizing, output concerns, exclusive pumping, and creating realistic pumping schedules.
Can you help with bottle feeding or combo feeding?
Absolutely. We support all feeding journeys, including breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, formula supplementation, and combo feeding without judgment.
Do you assess for tongue ties?
We assess oral function and feeding symptoms that may be associated with tethered oral tissues and can provide referrals to appropriate specialists when needed.
Do you take insurance?
Insurance coverage varies by plan. Some visits may be covered through lactation benefits. Please contact us for current insurance information and eligibility verification.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
